To cherish the recollections of our homes and the birthplace of ourselves and our forefathers, to promote good fellowship among Italians and their descendants in this their adopted City and Country, and to promote an appreciation of Italian arts, culture, and science.

As
announced last September, we initiated an affiliation with this
nonprofit organization for a number of reasons. In our last survey,
members indicated that they wanted three things:
• Increased community involvement and exposure for the Society
• An opportunity to be affiliated with some type of philanthropic activity
• An opportunity to support the arts – particularly those associated with our Italian culture
The Executive Committee selected the Savannah Voice Festival because it fulfills all three needs.

SVF promotes the Society aggressively. The Society’s name and logo
appear on all their marketing materials and our Society is recognized by
the Executive Director, Maria Zouves, at the start of SVF events
(including recent performances that several of us attended at Christ
Church and Temple Mickve Israel). Recall that Maria performed at last
October’s Columbus Day banquet to enthusiastic acclaim. Our name also
appears twice on the SVF website under “Contributors” (see Wagner Level
supporters), and also as “2014 Sponsors.”
2. SVF is nonprofit,
the mission of which is to promote the quality, integrity and
perpetuation of vocal arts, as well as to train and promote young,
emerging artists.
3. Opera is the art form perhaps most
associated with Italian culture. In fact, the word “opera” translates
(roughly) to “work” (noun, not verb) in Italian – as in a “work” of art.
The
Society pledged $3,000 to the Savannah Voice Festival for 2014, $600 of
which has already been paid through private contributions by members.
We have an arrangement with SVF whereby Society members who make
contributions are acknowledged in the program materials of the SVF and
the Society gets credit towards its pledge. In order for the Society to
keep track of donations made by its members, we ask that donation checks
be made payable to the “VoicExperience Foundation” and addressed to:

with
a note indicating that you are a member of the Italian Society of
Savannah (so that your donation can be credited towards our pledge).

membership.

Membership Pins and Name Tags Members are required to wear their membership pins and name tags at all Society functions. If you have lost or misplaced either your membership pin or name tag and need a replacement, cost is $15 each. To order a replacement pin, email Dr. Robert DiBenedetto at dibene@bellsouth.net.
