To cherish the recollections of our homes and the birthplace of ourselves and our forefathers, to promote good fellowship among Italians and their descendants in this their adopted City and Country, and to promote an appreciation of Italian arts, culture, and science.


Columbus Day Banquet - 2014


The society's annual Columbus Day Banquet was held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa overlooking the beautiful Savannah River and skyline.

Guests were treated to a five-course culinary extravaganza prepared by Executive Chef Steve Black. Guest of Honor and Keynote Speaker was Joseph Lombardo, former COO of Gulfstream Aerospace and currently the executive vice president of the Aerospace Group for General Dynamics Corp.

Treasurer David Pelliccione was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for his extraordinary service to the society during his 10-year tenure and founding member Otto Aliffi was awarded Member Emeritus.

Joseph Lombardo – Executive Vice President, Aerospace Group, General Dynamics

Joseph Lombardo, who served as president of Gulfstream Aerospace from 2007 until 2011, is the executive vice president of the Aerospace Group for General Dynamics Corp. The group consists of Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. and Jet Aviation. Mr. Lombardo has served as executive vice president since 2007.

Prior to his appointment in 2007, Mr. Lombardo was chief operating office for Gulfstream. Since October 2001, he also served as a vice president of General Dynamics Corp.

After starting his aerospace career in 1975 at Douglas Aircraft, Mr. Lombardo held leadership roles in production and material control, planning and manufacturing. Before joining Gulfstream, he was general manager of production for twin-jets at Douglas Aircraft Company, a divisionof McDonnell Douglas Corp.

Mr. Lombardo joined Gulfstream in 1996 as vice president, Co-Production. He was responsible for the successful ramp-up and dual production of the Gulfstream IV-SP and Gulfstream V. As chief operating officer, he was responsible for the cost, quality and schedule of Gulfstream’s manufactured products.

Mr. Lombardo earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from San Diego State University in 1971 and a master’s degree in business administration from California State University Long Beach in 1984. He is a recipient of the National Management Association’s Silver Knight award. He was also awarded the Cliff Henderson Trophy by the National Aeronautic Association in 2012.

Mr. Lombardo is a member of the boards of directors for the Corporate Angel Network and the National Aeronautic Association. He is also a member and chairman of the board of governors for the Ocean Exchange.

Sommelier Kylie Pittman, cultural discourse on "Slowness in Urban Life,
Italy and Savannah" provided by SCAD professor Dr. David Gobel, and great
cuisine and ambience provided by the Westin were the highlights of

Festa di Primavera - 2014


On April 25, Society members and their guests enjoyed live music and bocce during an Italian-American Street Fair at Leoci’s Trattoria, 606 Abercorn Street.
